Idiom, hyperbole, alliteration, metaphor, onomatopoeia, similes and personification. These are all language features which we call figurative language. In reading we have been learning about these language features and how authors used them in their writing to make their work engaging and add interest for their audience. We made posters either with paper pencils or flowers with examples and definitions of the language feature. Here is our figurative language poster.

The Life Cycle Of a Sea Turtle
I.A.L.T inform my audience about sea turtles using explanation text.
To lay her eggs the female turtle will climb onto a beach where she will dig a hole of sand and deposit 50-200 leathery ping pong ball sized eggs. Approximately 20% of these will never hatch. Once hatched the surviving turtles, each small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, squirm to the surface. They will then make a desperate dash for the sea. Along the the way they will come across predators such as raccoons, gulls and crabs. Which will claim about 50% of those that make it to the sand.
Those lucky enough to have made it to the water will frantically swim forward to look for a piece of floating debris, in this stage 50% of those that had reached the surf will be killed because of unfortunate weathers, currents or predators. Over time those baby turtles will increase in size.
Once the turtles have reached adulthood their predators change from gulls and smaller creatures to sharks, tigers, bulls, whites and killer whales. Only 10% of those that started on a beach many years ago less than 10% remain. But with the added pressure of pollution, nets and poaching the chances of a sea turtle’s survival drop to approximately 1% or less. Once a turtle has reached around 20 years of age they will be ready to continue to cycle and breed.

Liam And The Great Big Orange Thing
I am learning to write about what happens before during and after an event
Liam is a normal kid, he has dark hair and light blue eyes that glistens every time he goes out in the sun. Like everybody else he wakes up and gets ready to go to school. He has breakfast every morning. but one day as he leaves his house to go to school, he finds himself face to face with a giant orange robot with weird tentacle like things sticking out of its side.
He dived under it. But it squeezes him with it’s huge thick mechanical legs. Then it grabs him with one of it’s weird tentacle like things and sits him on his back. Suddenly all the metal in the area starts to move toward us. In response the robot starts to run, all the metal behind us is picking up speed, the robot runs faster and faster. The next thing he know I’m speeding down the road at 100mph. It feels like I’m in a convertible with no windscreen on the motorway. The people on the sidewalk are gaping at us. I then feel something gurgling in my stomach. . .then suddenly vomit comes hurling out of my mouth and splatters all over the back of this beast like robot. It stops and falls down to the ground all the magnetic things that had been chasing us thudder to a stop.
Liam's lying on back,he’s in his bed under his blankets and covered in vomit, Liam was relieved it was a dream after all.

What Goes Down Sometimes Comes Up
I am learning to inform my audience by sharing an entertaining moment.
It’s sitting on my plate. It looked disgusting, smell disgusting but most of all it tasted disgusting. I turn my back to the dish and cover my nose. All I can think of is the taste of these horrible mushy squares.
Mum scoops some onto my plate spoonful, after spoonful. Little orange lumps fall onto my plate one after the other as I refuse to eat them. I cover my nose with my t-shirt as the smell starts to get too overwhelming for me.
There are now hundreds of little squares of roasted carrot sitting on my plate. I eat a couple, as the taste exploded in my mouth at this moment I feel like I'm going to throw up. I tried to swallow. This spoonful was successful, Mum tells me to try some more but as I pick up the fork once more I hiccup but it’s not a normal one… it’s like half a hiccup and half vomit. It was the worst sensation that I’ve ever felt.

Going to tree adventures
The best part of my holiday was when I went to my friend Riley's birthday party. It was at tree adventures!. The course started by climbing up about 40 metres off the floor and finished by zip lining to the ground. In between was a combination of things including the Tarzan swing where you have to swing into a net and then clip onto a metal line to move on to the next activity. There were a lot of other things that you had to do up in the trees like swinging, walking, running, crawling and climbing .I thought going to tree adventures and being so high up in trees was a really cool experience.
